We’re HOME!

Well, again, plans tend to change, and as Robert says, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with us! We woke up yesterday (Sunday) morning about 6 am in  Paris  to a cold, wet and generally miserable Parisian day.  The forecast was for something like a low of 45 and a high of 47 and basically gray.  However, we also had an email from  American Airlines  telling us that, as weather was expected that could potentially affect our Monday flight, we were being offered a  free  flight change, if we’d like.  So … being as we were already at  Charles de Gaulle Airport , we thought, why not??  And, with the help of a very nice  American  agent, we were able to move our itinerary one day forward to Sunday 21 January, with the result being that within an hour or so, we found ourselves packing up our things and rather than spending the day wandering in  Paris , we were on our way home!     Taxi-ed fro...

Hello from Paris!

Sorry for not blogging last night, but as with all well laid plans, our has had a change!  So, not knowing exactly what to say, I said nothing yesterday and waited until we actually had something to say.  As it turns out, Robert has had a slight urological glitch on the radar that we have decided was serious enough to require our returning home now rather than in two weeks.  We’ve decided that it didn’t require immediate doctor’s attention – he feels fine – but we didn’t want to wait until we got medical advice.  So … we drove back to  Charles de Gaulle  from  Nimes  today.  It was cold – about freezing, but clear, which was nice.  We drove up through Lyon – in fact, we drove along the  Rhone  and actually right next to the  Musee des Confluence , where the  Saone  and the  Rhone  meet; it was fun to see Lyon again, which we very much enjoy!  From there, it was ba...

A Sunny Day!

Up this morning about 7:30 am to quite a foggy day, although with the promise of sunshine a bit later.  Bathed and out about 9 and headed over to  Café Napoleon  for coffee, hot chocolate and pastries before our walk to the  Jardins de la Fontaine .  It turns out that the first inhabitants of  Nimes  settled in the 6 th  Century BC near what they considered a sacred spring.  In the 1 st  Century BC, the Romans set in it the  Augusteum , a vast sanctuary dedicated to the god  Nemausus  (from whence  Nimes  got its name) and the emperor  Augustus .  This monumental set of buildings was rediscovered in the 18 th  century and a magnificent formal garden was designed around it that respected the layout of the archaeological remains.  Today, the water from the original spring still fills fountains throughout the city, and there are some lovely canals and channels that wend t...

What a beautiful city!

Up this morning about 8 to another gray day, but while it evidently rained during the night, it looked at least to be clearing a bit this morning.  We had had such a nice late lunch yesterday at  La Reserve  that neither of us were hungry for dinner last night, so we munched on cheese and salami, and that was it.  So, dinner tonight will be our roast chicken from the market, with the roast potatoes and green beans.     I did want to get to the bank this morning, and for preference, wanted to find a  BNP Paribas , as their ATM’s usually ask if you want a variety of bills, rather than all 50’s…which is what we prefer (50’s occasionally being hard to change).  So, found a  BNP  about 5 minutes away from the apartment, so decided to head their first and then see if we could find a café close by where we could get some breakfast; failing that, we figured we would stop at a patisserie and get some croissants and bring them ...
