The Brucato's are off to France!

What a way to start the year -- with a trip to France, Robert's very favorite country!  (Mine still happens to be Turkey, which we plan on visiting this upcoming November ... but more on that this fall!)

We will be flying on Monday, January 8th, Phoenix to Dallas and then Dallas to Charles de Gaulle in Paris.  We'll be spending our first four nights in Paris (time to decompress a bit) and from there, we'll pick up a car and head south.  (As I'm such a wuss when it comes to cold weather, I'm hoping that we can be as warm as possible ... faint hope, I'm sure, but it does tend to spring eternal!)

Our trip encompasses Saint-Affrique, Nimes, Montpellier, Toulouse, Le Bugue (in the Dordogne) and then we head back north, via Tours and back to CDG for our return to the U.S. on February 1st.  Being as it's winter, this will be much more an an indoor trip than outdoor, although hopefully we will be able to pick up a cave or a Roman amphitheatre or two along the way!  Lots of museums scheduled, though -- it has been a few years since we have been down this way, and there are a few places -- such as Toulouse, where we've never stayed before, so we're really looking forward to doing some exploring!  


We will be posting the blog (hopefully!) nightly, and we would love to have you join us on our latest adventure, if you feel so inclined!  Also, comments and suggestions are always sincerely appreciated -- especially if they involve things like food and drink!  YUM!

What a beautiful city!

Up this morning about 8 to another gray day, but while it evidently rained during the night, it looked at least to be clearing a bit this morning.  We had had such a nice late lunch yesterday at  La Reserve  that neither of us were hungry for dinner last night, so we munched on cheese and salami, and that was it.  So, dinner tonight will be our roast chicken from the market, with the roast potatoes and green beans.     I did want to get to the bank this morning, and for preference, wanted to find a  BNP Paribas , as their ATM’s usually ask if you want a variety of bills, rather than all 50’s…which is what we prefer (50’s occasionally being hard to change).  So, found a  BNP  about 5 minutes away from the apartment, so decided to head their first and then see if we could find a café close by where we could get some breakfast; failing that, we figured we would stop at a patisserie and get some croissants and bring them ...

Hello from Paris!

Sorry for not blogging last night, but as with all well laid plans, our has had a change!  So, not knowing exactly what to say, I said nothing yesterday and waited until we actually had something to say.  As it turns out, Robert has had a slight urological glitch on the radar that we have decided was serious enough to require our returning home now rather than in two weeks.  We’ve decided that it didn’t require immediate doctor’s attention – he feels fine – but we didn’t want to wait until we got medical advice.  So … we drove back to  Charles de Gaulle  from  Nimes  today.  It was cold – about freezing, but clear, which was nice.  We drove up through Lyon – in fact, we drove along the  Rhone  and actually right next to the  Musee des Confluence , where the  Saone  and the  Rhone  meet; it was fun to see Lyon again, which we very much enjoy!  From there, it was ba...

Allo from Nimes!

And it’s not FREEZING!  Yay!  Up this morning about 8, and packed up and ready to go about 9:30 am. Believe it or not, around the snow piles, there were folks in their own private jacuzzi’s on the patios!  We thought they were crazy, but possibly that’s because we didn’t have one ourselves and we were just jealous … but honestly, I think not!  As Robert reminded me, though, we liked our Altadena jacuzzi best in the wintertime … but not in the snow, believe me!  At any rate, our first stop was to top off the gas at the  Carrefour  next door, and then we were on our way to  Roquefort .  As it turns out, today being Monday, much of France is closed … and the particular cheese shop that we particularly wanted to visit –  Gabriel Coulet , was of course, closed on Monday!  Oh well!  So, instead, we went to  Societe , where we had visited several years ago, and finally (after much sear...
